Hi yall,
Id like to take just a couple of minutes of your time to introduce myself.
My name is Johnny Johnson and I live in Lilburn, Georgia which is a suburb
of Atlanta. Ive had an interest in learning woodworking for some time
but, up until now, other things kept getting in the way. Anyway, several
months ago I decided to take the plunge and started reading books and doing
the research needed to purchase a table saw, router, etc. As it happened,
two of the books I read focused on using hand tools which made me rethink
the approach I was taking. Ive always enjoyed working with my hands
(leather work, making knives, building flyrods, tying flies, etc.) and the
idea of reclaiming old tools really appealed to me so - I decided to try
making furniture without the use of power tools. Im far enough along now
to see that Im hooked, at least for the short term. I now own several
older Stanley planes and a couple of Disston saws with more goodies on the
way. I cant believe how much stuff you need just to make a simple piece
with some dovetail and mortise/tenon joints!
Ive been lurking on the List for the past month and its obvious yall are
a super resource of information for a rookie like me and I hope no one
minds me cluttering things up with some pretty basic questions.
Thanks for your time,
Johnny
