278394 Tony Seo 2024‑04‑29 FS: The Toolz Of 2024 List 4-4
Pickings were really strong last week, besides what I got down at
Kutztown, so here is some of the fresh stuff...

PayPal is preferred (if you use it) on all items. It's easier for me to
ship items off of a paid PayPal invoice, especially First Class ones.
Checks and money orders are still welcome.

And remember........da more ya buy, the cheaper they fly!

First contact (that is e-mail, or phone) that says I want it gets it.
Prices do not include shipping.  All items are shipped with Delivery
Confirmation. Insurance, unless it is a big order or a very fragile item
is optional. Just let me know. Also, I am shipping a lot more stuff via
First Class mail. There will be a small amount added to the shipping
cover the cost of the padded mailer. I don't get them for free.

Please put your name and address in the message. Saves time and email
traffic!

Cantelo 1891 Patent Folding Handle 8 Inch Draw Knife.  Measuring 15 3/4"
overall, the blade is 8 1/16" long, 1 3/8" wide at the center, 1 5/16"
at the ends, and this weighs 1 lb 11 oz unboxed.  John S. Cantelo of
Boston, MA was granted Pat. No. 454,848 on June 30, 1891 for the design
of this tool.  This is in reasonably good condition and was cleaned.
The back of the blade is clean save for some light scuffs, stains, and a
couple of small spots of light pitting up at the top.  The edge is
sharp.  The front also has some staining, but nothing too bad patina
wise.  The handle joints do have some light patina and wear to the
plating.  The handles have some dings and stains, but have most of the
original finish, plus a coat of wax. The ferrules and end caps also have
some patina.  Not perfect, but still a good working and collectible
tool.  $65.00

to the maker.  This is in reasonably good condition and was not
cleaned.  The front is good save for the large user initials stamped on
the bottom.  The edges are good and all the rulings are readable.  The
back has some light scuffs and wear. This ain't pristine, but it will
get the job done.  $16.00

Brown & Sharpe No 752 Toolmakers Vise.  The body is 3 1/4" long, 7/8"
wide, 1 1/8" high, and this weighs 10 oz unboxed.  This is in good
condition and was cleaned.  There are some small stained spots on the
sides and top of the body.  The jaw faces are good and the screw travels
the full distance.  The ends have some light scuffs and the base has
some staining and a few light spots of frosting. This ain't minty, but
it is a quality tool that will get the job done.  $40.00

Small Vintage Perfect Handle Screwdriver.  Measuring 3 15/16" long, the
tip is 3/16" wide, and this weighs 1 oz unboxed.  This is just marked
Germany which is where most of these small ones were made. This is in
good condition and was cleaned.  The blade has a little staining and
frosting, but the tip is good and was never messed with.   The shaft and
frame are also good.  The handle scales have some staining, but both are
solid and are on tight.  I gotta say, as these guys usually go, this one
is a nice example of this tool. $20.00

P S Stubs No 14 Jewelers Pliers.  Measuring 4 5/16" long, the jaws are
5/8" deep, 5/32" wide at the tips, and this weighs 1 1/4 oz unboxed.
This is in reasonably good condition and was cleaned. There is a little
frosting and staining, but nothing too bad.  The jaws are good save for
a little wear on the tips and they close up tight and flush.   The
"through the center" style joint has a wee bit of wiggle to it.  This
ain't perfect, but it is a top quality tool that will get the job done.

2 oz unboxed.  These are in reasonably good condition and were cleaned.

the inside of the grooves.  Both screws are good to go.  These are handy
and top quality tools to have around.  $22.00

Hand Forged Early Eel Or Frog Gig.  Measuring 15 5/8" overall, the head
is 4 1/16" long, 2 1/16" wide across the outside of the tips, and this
weighs 8 1/2 oz unboxed.  Not signed as to the maker.  This is in
reasonably good condition and was cleaned.  There is some overall light
patina.  The head is good, and the hand cut barbs on the insides of the
outer tines are sharp.  This will need a handle, but that's an easy
fix.  I gotta say, that these guys are sure few and far between of
late.  $30.00

Early Hand Forged Candle Wick Trimmer.  Measuring 7 1/16" long and this
weighs 2 1/4 oz unboxed.  Not signed as to the maker.  My guess is that
this is either late 18th or early 19Th Century as to the age.  This is
in reasonably good condition and was not cleaned. There is some overall
light patina, including some scuffs left over from when this was made.
The joint is fairly good.  I gotta say, that these guys sure are getting
few and very far between.  $32.00

is 1 7/8" wide, and this weighs 1 lb 11 oz unboxed.  Not signed as to
the maker.  This is in reasonably good condition and was cleaned.  There
is some overall light pitting and patina, but it ain't like bark removal
is an indoor spot.  The head is good and has a bit of steel at the end.
The socket was repairing at some point in time and that is good to go.
This ain't minty, but it's a solid tool that will get the job done.  $35.00

unboxed.  This is in reasonably good condition and was cleaned. There is
a little frosting on the legs.  The joint is good other than a little
crusty on the inside and the tips are quite pointy (yeah I found that
out the hard way!)  The nut travels the full distance and was oiled.
This ain't minty, but it will get the job done.  $17.00

RARE Miller & Son Phila Hand Forged Oyster Clam Shucker Shucking Knife.
Measuring  8 1/16" long and this weighs 11 oz unboxed.  From what I can
find, Miller & Son made these kind of tools at 309 S. 5th street in
Philadelphia during the 1850's.  That address now is an ACME
Supermarket.  This is in reasonably good condition and was cleaned.
There is the usual patina found on these kind of items. The blade has
some frosting, but the edges are good.  The handle also has some light
patina.  I've sold a bunch of these guys over the years and this is the
first one with this mark to come my way. $48.00

The head is good other than a little frosting.  The joint is good.  All
the nuts work and were oiled and the clamps for the legs are solid with
no cracks.  The divider tips are nice and pointy.  The caliper legs have
some frosting and a user name stamped on the one side.  This ain't
pristine, but it will get the job done.  $95.00

Uncommon Starrett No 61 Reliable Try Square.  The blade is 4" long and
this weighs 2 3/4 oz unboxed.  This is in reasonably good condition and
was cleaned.  The blade has some light scuffs and some frosting on the
front and some very light rust etching and a small user mark on the
back.  The edges and corners are good.  The handle finish is original,
but is worn a little.  The machined faces have some frosting, a couple
of dings, and scuffs, but nothing too bad. The locking nut works and was
oiled.  This ain't pristine, but this is not a very common Starrett tool
to say the least, and a new one will cost close to twice what I'm asking
for this one.  $85.00

Vintage Forged Ships Carpenters Adze Head.  Measuring 10 5/16" long, the
edge is 5 7/16" wide, the steel bit looks to be about 5/8" deep, and
this weighs 2 lbs 15 1/2 oz unboxed.  Not signed as to the maker.  This
is in fair condition and was cleaned.  There is some overall pitting and
patina.  The steel bit has some pitting as well, and it's bent downward
a little one the one side.  The hammer poll has some mushrooming and
wear.  The eye has some crusty on the inside and I did scuff the bottom
a little removing a busted old handle, but it is solid.  This ain't
pretty or perfect, but these guys sure ain't getting any easier to come
by.  $28.00

1/4" on the inside, 1 1/4" deep, and this weighs 2 lbs 10 1/2 oz
unboxed.  Not signed as to the maker.  What this is for, I ain't gotta
clue, and my local expert don't either.  Do not make this a guessing
game, PM me with any thoughts.  This is in decent condition and was
cleaned.  There is some overall light patina.  The face has some dings
and a little mushrooming on the outside of the one edge.  The striking
end has some checks and the start of some flaking in the center.  The
eye is solid with no checks, but it wasn't the world's greatest punch
job either.  This ain't perfect, but it ain't like another one will be

side of the auger.  The cutting edge is fairly good.  The handle is
good, save for a few tiny dots of paint, and has almost all of the
original finish.  The screw doesn't remove.  This ain't pristine, but

little work.  I did take off a little sharp mushrooming off of a couple

somebody else got aggressive removing an old handle, but they are good.

the maker.  This is in decent condition and was cleaned.  There are some
spots of light pitting and some overall frosting on the head, along with
user initials on the one side.  The face has some tiny dings, but
nothing too bad.  The peen is good. The handle has a check under the eye
from the wedge and some stains, but it's solid.  This ain't perfect, but
it will get the job done. $18.00

Essex Mfg Co 5/8 Inch Bevel Side Paring Chisel.  Measuring 8 13/16" from
the edge to the end of the socket, the blade is 6 1/8" long, this is 12
9/16" overall, and this weighs 6 1/4 oz unboxed.  This is in reasonably
good condition and was cleaned.  The back is good save for some light
scuffs and a little frosting.  The top has some stained spots, but
nothing too bad.  The edge has some chipping and will need a touch up.
The socket is good.  The handle is a good replacement and is good other
than a little staining on the one side.  This ain't pristine, but it's a
solid tool that will get the job done.  $20.00

reasonably good condition and was cleaned.  There is some frosting and a
few small spots of light pitting.  The joint and tips are good.  The
locking screw and fine adjuster nut both work and were oiled.  This
ain't pristine, but it will get the job done. $17.00

Springfield Trapdoor Model 1879 Gun Tool.  Measuring 2 5/8" long and
this weighs 1 1/4 oz unboxed.  This is in reasonably good condition, the
only cleaning was a wipe down with some penetrating oil to get rid of
some grease.  There is a little overall light patina and some oil
residue.  The joint is good and hold except for one small area. The
wrench, punch, and screwdriver tips are all good to go.  This ain't
minty, but it will get the job done.  $17.00

L & I J White 11/16 Inch Bench Gouge.  Measuring 5 7/8" from the edge to
the top of the handle, the blade is 4 3/8" long, 11/16" wide across the
inside of the sweep, 13/16" across the outside, this is 11 1/12"
overall, and this weighs 5 1/2 oz unboxed.  L. & I. J. White were
Buffalo NY toolmakers who were in business from 1837 until 1928.  This
is in reasonably good condition and was cleaned. The inside of the sweep
is clean other than a light patch of pitting around the center.  The
back has some stained spots, but nothing too bad.  The edge is wicked
good.  The London pattern handle looks to be apple wood.  That has some
dings, stains, and a couple of small chips, but it's solid.  This ain't
pristine, but it's a quality tool that will get the job done.  $27.00

Early Rosewood & Brass 2 ft Folding Rule.  The body is 12 3/8" long and
this weighs 1 3/4 oz unboxed.  Not signed as to the maker, but this
could be 18th or early 19th Century as to the age.  This is in good
condition and was cleaned at some point, but not by me.  The body has
some light stains and is missing a few of the tiny brass pins, but
nearly all of them are present.  There are also hand stamped numerals as
well.  NOW, an inch on this guy is actually 15/16", but that has varied
a lot over the years.  There is a very slight outward bow to both
sections looking from the slot.  The brass rule is good save for some
wear to the corners.  The joint is fairly good, but does get a little
loose with the brass straight out.  I gotta say that rules like this are
few and very far between.  $160.00

Maples & Sons Cast Steel No 5 11/16" Carving Tool Gouge. Measuring 5"
from the edge to the top of where the handle would start, the blade is
11/16" wide across the sweep, the sweep looks to be a No. 5, this is 7
1/4" overall, and this weighs 2 oz unboxed. This is in fair condition
and was cleaned.  Somebody else had polished the sweep a little at the
edge, but after that there is some overall light pitting on the inside.
The back is fairly clean for the most part.  The tang is good.  This
will need a handle. This ain't perfect, but with a little work, it will
get the job done.  $14.00

Vintage Cobblers Hammer.  Measuring 7 3/4" overall, the head is 3 5/8"
long, the face is 1 5/16" in diameter, the peen is 1 3/8" wide, and this
weighs 14 3/4 oz unboxed.  Not signed as to the maker. This is in decent
condition and was cleaned.  There is some overall roughness on the head
left over from when this was made.  The black finish is original and
most of that is present.  The face has some tiny dings, but nothing too
bad.  The peen is good.  The handle was user crafted and was hand carved
from a piece of oak.  That has some checks at the end and some long gone
worm holes, but it's solid enough to use.  This ain't pristine, but it
will get the job done. $17.00

overall, the head is 2 1/4" long, the face and peen are 7/16" in
diameter, and this weighs 4 3/4 oz unboxed.  Not signed as to the
maker.  This is in reasonably good condition and was not cleaned. There
are a few dots and small spots of patina, but this has almost all of the
original finish.  The pictures tell the rest of the story.  This is what
it is, but to my eye it is kinda neat.  $14.00

staining on both sides, but nothing much in the way of wear. There are
some tiny dings on the sides.  This ain't minty, but it is a quality
stone that will get the job done.  $14.00

L S Starrett No 73 6 Inch Yankee Pattern Inside Caliper.  Measuring 7"
long and this weighs 2 3/4 oz unboxed.  This is in decent condition and
was cleaned.  There is some light frosting on the legs and some light
pitting down by the tips.  The spring and tips are good otherwise.  The
nut travels the full distance and holds.  This ain't pristine, but it
will get the job done.  $16.00

Millers Falls No 3 Rogers Patent Timberframer T-Auger Handle. Measuring
16" long and this weighs 1 lb 4 1/4 oz unboxed.  George E. Rogers of
Greenfield, MA was granted Pat. No. 484,050 on Oct. 11, 1892 for the
design of this tool.  This isn't signed, but few of these were.  This is
in reasonably good condition and was cleaned and the head refinished.
The jaws are good.  The nut works and the threads were oiled.  The oak
handles have some stains and dings, a few of them deep, but they are
solid and on tight.  This ain't pristine, but it's a solid tool that
will get the job done.  $45.00

Pexto Sampson-D No 8012D 12 Inch Sweep Brace.  This weighs 3 lbs 5 1/4
oz unboxed.  Henry V. Smith of Hartford, CT was granted Pat. No. 542,448
on July 9, 1895 for the original design of the chuck used on this tool.
This is in decent condition and was cleaned.  The plating on the arms
and chuck is pretty much gone and there is some overall light frosting,
but nothing too bad patina wise.  The Sampson chuck, which takes both
round shaft and square tang bits is good.  The ratchet works in both
directions and the locked position.  The grip and pad look to be
rosewood.  They both have some dings, but spin freely.  This ain't
pristine, but it's a solid and heavy duty tool that will get the job
done.  $45.00

Stanley Handyman No H1253A 10 Inch Sweep Brace.  This weighs 1 lb 15 1/4
oz unboxed.  This is in reasonably good condition and was not cleaned.
There is some staining and a few spots of light patina on the frame, but
nothing too bad.  The chuck and jaws are good, but this model never had
a spring on the jaws.  The ratchet works in both directions and the
locked position.  The wood grip and pad have almost all of the original
finish.  There are a few dings and bits of paint, but both spin freely.
This ain't pristine, but it will get the job done.  $24.00
