YKYITSCAW (You Know You're In The SCA When) you look at the above
picture and can place where he is standing within 20-30 feet.
It's the main battlefield at Pennsic, the vertical red banner with
the white drop with what looks like an upsidedown 2 is the first
aid station. The density of the tents behind the orange fence
on the left is a sample of the living area of the entire half a
square mile+ site.

I would particularly re-recommend the Viking Answer Lady at
www.vikinganswerlady.com/wood.shtml as well as browsing the links at
moas.atlantia.sca.org/wsnlinks/

There is a growing tendency for longer term members to camp very
decadently (we are not camping, but setting up the house for
a while, the house just happens to generally have cloth in the
construction). The knockdown furniture, made in nice woods,
are excellent for younger galoots who are more likely to be moving
frequently, as well as for offspring also likely to be moving for a
while. You don't have to make it all knockdown for the living room...
