278399 Don Schwartz <dks@t...> 2024‑05‑06 searching with google or duck-duck-go
Does any one have a method for excluding specified websites from search
result?

For example, I'm researching an MF spiral ratchet driver, a fairly
common tool. I have patent info, but am looking for a tear-down or
repair report. Instead I find gazillions of hits on ebay & worthpoint.
Is there a way to exclude those sites from my results?

Don

Hi Don,

Try the minus site, eg. "-site:ebay.com", you can add multiple minus
sites if you want.

Use the - in front of the domain name.  As in "MF spiral ratchet driver
-eBay -worthpoint"

There is another way but I can't find it right now.

Tony's method works well for Google, not sure about Duck.

I used to do this for some of my searches but I'd have a list of excluded
sites going all the way across the screen cuz there is so much crap out
there.

And honestly I don't think there is a teardown diagram out there your best
bet would be to try George's basement hosted by George of old tools fame.

Continuing on this theme. Changing your search terms a bit might help

Millers falls spiral screwdriver assembly

Millers falls spiral screwdriver repair

are some alternate wording that might help. I think Ratchet is getting you
down too tight of a niche search that not many people use.

Doesn't look like George has too much on MF screwdrivers.

I personally have never torn one apart. I have one Yankee which is
definitely stuck, but with a bunch of other users, its very low priority.

Hi Kirk

Using the exclusions on google dramatically improved the results, but no
tear-down located. It's on my to-do list ...

The exclusions were less helpful on DDG.

I wonder if it would be possible to get AI to produce an exploded

Just try different search terms. Using "Yankee" instead of "Millers Falls"
got me this Stanley instruction on disassembly, (page 1 on google search
using "yankee spiral ratchet repair parts" )

Dang, that's been posted here before, forgot about that.

I've had my copy since 2012 apparently. (Yankee screwdriver.pdf)

I'd guess that 85% is relevant to the MF screwdriver.

Thanks. Tried that in numerous attempts. Best results came from using
google with exclusions.

FWIW, it seems the internals of the MF 61 are very different from those
of the Yankees.
