Aha, I have been struggling with a question for a while, and now Lee's
pictures have spurred me on to asking.

I have a set of a 4-square and a 6 inch square very similar to the one in
the picture that Lee posted, but marked with:

  Challenge Cutlery Corp
  Patented 1904
  Bridgeport, Conn

But they seem to look like more than just a wooddorking set of squares.
They have a very odd wear pattern and are just calibrated on one side.
Anyone know if there is a story behind these or their intended use?
