8372 snoe@i... (Stephen Noe) 1996‑10‑24 BIO and SWMBO origins
Greetings from a sort-of newbie Galoot. I earn money by trying to
teach allied health students (future RN's, X-ray techs, physical therapists,
etc.) something about the human body they'll be poking, prodding, and
cutting open. I spend it on, mostly, food for two teenagers :-O, and
fabric, yarn, and America Off Line for SWMBO. She's on the Knit List -
there's 1200 K'listers out there so we're outnumbered - and wears a little
blue sock pinned to her shoulder to show that she learned to knitsocks via
the 'Net. Is there anything like that for us?
I got interested in tools and woodworking by necessity and from This
Old House 20 years ago. There's a bit of Norm in me, until I discovered
that not only do I have to spend umpty thousand $$$ on tools, but also have
to get a 1000megawatt reactor in the back yard to power every thing.
Oldtools bit when we started doing historic re-enactments 10 years ago:
French and Indian War. Soo, I'm trying to find period-appropriate tools to
use during an encampment. Saws and planes aren't too much of a problem - no
Stanley's of course - but wooden braces and pike bits have eluded me.
I'm currently building a portable workbench, modeled on a WWS sample
(whereinthehell does that man find actual-measurement 2inchX24inchX14foot
boards????)
FYI, SWMBO comes from an old, '20's or '30's, pulp novel called SHE,
by H. Rider Haggard. The title character had that title because, of course,
she must be obeyed, or else. Read The Book, don't bother with the movie,
unless you really like Ursula Andress wearing very little. (Hmmm, maybe
I've missed something.)
        Vive le roi!
