5868 "Dale E. Shore" <dnsshore@i...> 1996‑09‑12 Bio: Dale Shore
Greetings:

I'm Dale Shore -- joined up to OLDTOOLS a week ago. Figured I'd better =
get some info about myself into the works, so here goes.

I live in San Juan Capistrano, CA (the place where the swallows return =
to); it's been my home the last 18 years. Born & raised in Calif.; grew =
up in rural San Diego County. Went to school in Pomona to be a =
mechanical engineer. Been making a living for 25 years doing air =
pollution control and combustion related stuff on power plants, boilers, =
and other things that burn gas, oil, and coal.

What got me into old tools? I blame my Dad. He's been scrounging =
around and accumulating this stuff for 20 years. He got to the point =
where he wanted some working cash -- so he could go out and scrounge =
some more. Didn't want to mess with selling it piece by piece. So, he =
offered the whole lot to me. Since I've always wanted some decent hand =
woodworking tools, I figured I go for it, give myself an education on =
the subject, keep a bunch of good user items, then sell off the rest. =
Currently, I'm still in the education mode, and I'm starting to stash a =
few keepers. Soon, I'll be using the Monday trading post to put the =
rest into the hands of others who appreciate it.

I've been messing around with wood for about 30 years. Nothing major =
(yet); mostly repair & refinishing American turn-of-the-century oak =
furniture. However, I'm planning a Craftsman style mantle and shelving =
system for my wife (Stefanie) to display her hobby collection (hammered =
aluminum, AKA depression silver).

My other hobbies are pretty much automotive related. A couple sports =
cars, a dune buggy (for the Calif desert), early-70s Jeep (for Moab, =
Utah and Ouray, Colo.); and even model cars and slot cars from the 60s.

I look forward to being a part of this hobby and the communications =
system you folks have put together. I've already learned a tremendous =
amount just lurking through the archives and I hope to continue with the =
education and the fun.

Many thanks to all of you who, unknowingly, have been my teachers.
