I have been collecting tools seriously for 9-10 years. Planes are my main
interest comprising 90% or more of my collection although it is hard not to
pick up odds and ends that look interesting. The main plane interest is
wood; secondary is Stanley.

I live in Alton, Illinois so in wood I enjoy planes from Alton, Illinois, a
town in southern Illinois 20 miles north of St. Louis on the Mississippi
river, as well as those from Pennsylvania, especially from Philadelphia where
I was born. I also collect 18th century planes, American , English or
continental. I am a member of MTTCA and EAIA.

My father was from Alton, Illinois and my mother from Philadelphia so I have
relatives to visit in both areas and lots of shops to hit in between.

I enjoy doing research, both locally and at the Patent office depositary
library in St. Louis where I sometimes wind up some evenings or on weekends.
I am currently writing several articles on Israel White 3 arm plow planes and
hope to have them in the EAIA Chronicle soon.

I still buy my share of junk, sometimes not knowing what it is. I am also
capable of getting so excited over a great find that I fail to notice large
weld marks on the body of a plane. I live for weekend flea markets and
auctions but there is not enough time.

I also enjoy hiking and camping.

By day I am an attorney (generally a tax and estate attorney).( After
college I didn't know what to do so I kept going to school; see what
drinking will do to you).

I have 2 boys, age 16 & 18, both now driving so I am broke. The 16 year old
goes with me all the time and is quite knowledgeable about tools. The 18
year old loves computers, is now in love, and stays at home.

My wife is a registered nurse in hospital management and DOES NOT LIKE TOOLS,
tool collecting or anything remotely like it. She things tools would be
great ballast for my burial at sea.
