Gentle Galoots,

It occured to me as I was reading today's messages that I have never
submitted a proper Bio to the group, so here it is. I am 45 (almost, my
birthday is later this month). I live in Birmingham, Alabama where it has
been averaging approximately 137 degrees plus or minus for the past month or
so. I am a Sales Rep for a large national wireless carrier (I sell cell
phones for a living.) I have 2 other hobbies besides woodworking. I play
golf (especially if someone else if paying) and I am a musician (I play most
instruments with strings). I am married (2nd and last time). I have 2
sons. One of them is a Galoot in Training the other is a musician. I do
some woodworking, but I enjoy the tools as much as I enjoy the woodwork. I
got my start in woodworking in several ways. As a kid, I used to stay at my
Grandparents house after school while my parents were at work. Next door to
my Grandparents was a wonderful old gentleman (Mr. Garrett) that would let
me hang around while he worked in his shop. He had what seemed like every
tool imaginable to me. He would always let me have a few scraps of wood to
let me try to come up with something. I made everything from cars, to
trains from those scraps (not really, but in my imagination, that is what
they were). Later on, when I was a teenager, my father got into woodworking
and I helped him to build some projects. Then about 10 years ago, when my
wife and I got married, my wife wanted me to attempt some DIY projects. I
bought a few tools (at the time power tools) and became hooked on making
things. Later, I came across some old planes that had belonged to an uncle
of mine who had been a builder and cabinet maker much of his life. That is
when my attraction to the old hand tools began. My wife is probably
accurate when she states that woodworking is just another word for "Tool
Collector." I have a big weekness for saws (I can't seem to go to a flea
market or antique shop without picking up at least one.) Most recently, I
have been adding Braces & Auger Bits to my collection, but I am a sucker for
most anything that strikes me as interesting. Anyway, that's about it.

Thanks,

--
