Well, in keeping with tradition (on most lists), I'm posting a quick
bio...an introduction of sorts. Here goes...

My name is Chuck Knight, I'm 26 years old, and live in Dallas, TX.
I come from a long line of woodworker wannabees, and
*NOTHING* has been passed between the generations. So,
I'm starting from scratch.

I'm just getting interested in woodworking, and after watching
Norm use equipment valued in the tens of thousands of dollars
range, I'm disgusted. Even with my modest knowledge of
woodworking techniques, even *I* know that a pneumatic nail gun
is not a viable alternative to a hammer, for driving a single brad!

Anyway, I digress. I recently decided to go shopping for hand tools,
and 2 local flea markets made this easy. But I found prices for planes
varied from the cheap to the absurdly expensive. I picked up 2 that
were in good shape...a Stanley Handyman and a Stanley 110 block
plane.

OF COURSE, I went directly to the shop and started to try to make
shavings. After a few adjustments (pure guesswork) I was making
shavings...but I'm sure neither is adjusted optimally, yet. Can anyone
help me out? I'd really appreciate it. Please remember that I'm
literally starting from scratch, I don't know the terminology yet...so
take it easy on me!

P.S. I don't use a straight razor, though I've tried it. I find that my
best
shave comes from an "antique" safety razor...
