Greetings,

I'm one of those leaning towards the luddite, computer
programmer types.
My day job is for a software company in Austin, Tx
that does datamining for the automotive industry.

My real job is running a small(65 acre) transitional
organic farm.
We currently are raising meat sheep, meat and dairy
goats, chickens, ducks, geese and turkeys.

I learned woodworking from my grandfather, who had a
nice woodshop in his garage in Kenosha, Wi. He died
in 1968, and I didn't do much woodworking after that.

I started working with wood again about 4 years ago,
when we started farming. Mostly gates and chicken
houses.

We bought our current farm 3 years ago, and it's been
a continual remodeling project in the house, as well
as around the farm. My best work still seems to be
gates and pens, but I also build some nice grapefruit
crates for some friends who sell citrus next to our
stand at the farmer's market in Austin.

Several months ago, a luddite friend of mine gave me
some tools that he didn't need. A transitional block
plane, a James Swan (pat July 1888) adjustable draw
knife and an unknown brace with a thumb screw clamp
instead of a chuck. All of these are in really good
shape, in fact I just finish shaping 4 table legs for
my wife's 2005 Christmas present, a 6ft x 6ft dining
room table, using the draw knife.

It was the gift of these tools that lead me to the Old
Tools list. One of the helpful people down at the
local Woodcrafter's told me about the list.

Today, I also picked up an eggbeater, unknown
manufacture, with a hollow handle that stores bits.

Micheal
