It has been very nicely drawn to my attention that I haven't
posted a bio, so here goes.
I'm 34, married 11 yrs, two kids (2.5 and 5.5 yrs old). Graduated
from the University of Melbourne, with a B.Sc., majoring in
Statistics with minors in Comp Sci and Maths. Started my own
computer consulting company just over 10 years ago, still running it.
Live in Melbourne, the capital of Victoria, the small state in the
south-east "corner" of Australia. For further info see
http://www.business.vic.gov.au/dbe-invest/liveable.html and
http://www.theage.com.au/special/marvmelb/marmelb.htm. It's the
second-largest city in Australia with a population of just over 3.2M
and the site of best restaurants in Australia. Really, it's true!
(Actually, that's there mainly to needle other aussies!)
Despite the computer background, I come from a long line of people
with interests in construction and related industries. My male
ancestors were builders, loggers, carpenters, painters (ok,
stretching it a bit there). It's in the blood, I fear.
My WW interests are basically everything except turning and marquetry
(I don't have anything against them, they're just not for me). I've
been practising woodworking (mainly furniture-building, but a bit of
framing - renovating a 100 year old timber house) for 12 years or so.
I have no idea who Norm is (well, OK, I've figured it out by now) and
no probably no more interest in hearing people fight about him than
you do in hearing about people on TV here. Was that abrasive?
If so, sorry: no abrasion intended. Better to scrape than abrade ;-)
I confess: I have a router, but no belt sander. I have acquired a
range of hand-tools over the last decade, of which about half are
decent, and these include some planes (including a #3, #4, #4 1/2,
#5, #7, #78, #110) and some nice saws, one inherited from my
grandfather. But I'm a user, not a collector.
My current project is the design and construction of the workbench to
end all workbenches. When I've done it, if I figure I got it right,
I'll post pictures or plans.
And one day, just maybe, I will earn the title of galoot... sigh ;-)
