141265 "Hans A. Muller" <viaconsu@t...> 2005‑01‑29 Bio update
Let me introduce myself: Hans Muller, vintage 1933, retired civil
engineer, specialized in tropical road design, construction and
maintenance. I live now again in the Netherlands (yes, that
loud-mouthed, tiny, overcrowded piece of muddy delta bordering the North
Sea), with my French wife of 42 years. Two beautiful daughters, two
fascinating grandchildren. During my 42 year career, (with the same
consulting engineering firm !), I spent many years abroad in developing
countries, mainly Africa, but also the Middle- and Far East, and Central
and South America. My grandfather was a cabinet maker, unfortunately
most of the wooden parts of his tools were used to keep warm and cook
sugar beets during the winter of 1944 - 45. Too many hobbies, but I am
scaling down on the restoration and riding of classic motorcycles
(Triumph, BSA) and hope to spend more time on torturing wood: showcases
for my wife’s ceramics and crystal collection, and finally making that
Kentucky rifle for which I have the parts already for some 30 years. I
have to confess that due to physical restrictions (old age you know...)
I have to use machine power to some extent, but use handtools as often
as possible. Besides the old and modern woodworking tools, my workshop
is well equipped with metal working stuff, of which my 1957 Myford lathe
is the most prized. And I LOVE this group; the wisdom and knowledge
available on the porch, and the contact with like-minded people all over
the world are things to cherish.
