Hi,

My name is Jon Lexau and by day (and sometimes night) I work as a computer
engineer for Sun Microsystems Laboratories in Mountain View, Ca. In my spare
time I enjoy windsurfing, snowboarding, and of course woodworking. I have
recently moved to a new house where I have all of a two car garage to work in.
Unfortunately it is detached from the house, so no heat or humidity control.
It also has absolutely horrible electrical power, so all the more reason to
use hand tools.

I currently have a small collection of older Stanley planes (3, 4-1/2, 7) and
a new #5 which I mostly use on pallets. I also have a couple of Lie-Nielson
planes (scrub and low-angle jack) which I think are wonderful. My most recent
addition is a late-model Norris A5 infill smoother courtesy of Lee Richmond,
which I have just started using. I already appreciate what it seems to be
capable of, though. The mouth is a little wide, but hopefully I can fix that.

I purchased a bunch of old chisels from a retiring school teacher in Vermont
and learned to cut mortices pretty well. I bought a new (Paragon) tenon saw,
but so far I haven't had incredible success with that part of the joint - need
more practice!

My most recently completed project was a dog house to keep my little furry
friend out of the rain. I'm even going to put some old shingles on when I get
a chance. My real woodworking interests lies in instrument making, though. I
am currently working on a new fretless neck for one of my electric bass
guitars and I am thinking about building an acoustic bass guitar next. I also
plan to build some of the jewelry/trinket box type things for my girlfriend in
the near future.

That's enough for now, I guess. I think I shall be learning a lot from this
list.

- Jon
