-118 "Berger, Chris" <cjb@m...> 1970‑01‑01 Hello
Hi Oldtoolers.

I'm Chris Berger, and a new subscriber to OTL.

By profession, I am a faculty member in the Krannert School of Mamagement at
Purdue University where I teach and research Human Resource Management.

Woodwise, I am a turner (mostly faceplate for functional and decorative
bowls) and I do a little cabinet work when I have time (I'm going to redo my
kitchen one of these days!).

Toolwise, I have a hard time limiting my collecting. Fortunatly or
unfortunatly, my wallet provides a limit, so I try to stay with quality
cabinet maker/joiner, measurement and calculating tools. Stanley is always
interesting to me.

In the last year, I did decide that I needed some boundries, and I have gotten
(or am getting) out of Winchester, Keen Kutter, Axes, Hammers, Wrenches and
misc. stuff that I don't have room for. I had enough stuff that I did some
flea markets and had a booth in an antique mall. I suppose that makes me an
"amateur dealer"...........doesn't feel too amateur when I do the bookeeping
work and see the time and money I spend on it. On the other hand, when I see
the inventory, knowledge (and the risk) that fulltime dealers have invested
in, I guess the AD label fits.

I am also interested in antique tool trends and prices, and the vastly
different markets that are out there. Finally, I joined EAIA and MWTCA about
1979 or 80. I let my membership lag in the late 80's, and got back into both
several years ago. Seems to me that both organizations have changed, and I am
curious as to how and why, and especially where tool collecting might be
headed in the next decade.

Always glad to chat about tools and the like. Thanks for the invitation to
join and to Gary for doing the list for us all.

Chris Berger
