63672 "Rick Shelton" <rshelton@n...> 1999‑06‑08 Bio:
I thought this to be as good a time as any to crawl out from under the porch
and proclaim my
existance.... hence, my bio. I'm fast approaching the big 4-0 (not as big as
the 5-0 or the (bigger
still) 6-0), but daunting, just the same. I currently work as a firmware
engineer for a large
communications company. I live in Ma'retta, GA (where Sherman must'a burnt all
the tools when he
burnt Atlanta) and have a 3 year old son that's hell with a screwdriver and
hammer ;^).

I've been fartin' around with ww'ing and general carpentry for about 8 years.
Up until about 3
years ago, most of my spare time was spent building things for the house... new
deck, grill table,
etc. I've even been known to churn out a cat tree, or two (I hope this doesn't
get me
blackballed). Then, like many out there, I acquired a TS, router (tailed
kind), etc. as the next
(then logical) step. Quickly grew to dislike the screaming machinery and the
feel of sawdust being
thrown in my face. Happened across a newsgroup that (sometimes) talks about
woodworking a couple
years ago, and started following the posts of a few (then) Neanderthals...
namely, O'deen,
Spokeshave, .... (and others I can't recall). These guys got me interested in
trying out handtools
and I soon found myself in possession of a #4 and #7 (first two ww'ing
handtools). The rest, as
they say, is history. I've had dealings with quite a few of you Galoots (even
met one or two), and
must say that the comraderie you guys share is quite refreshing. I've since
stopped following the
newsgroup and have expanded my tool fetish to include just about anything that
I can find. Yeap,
I'm in it bad... but the wife is tolerant (even bought me a LN #66 last
father's day) and, besides,
I'm having a blast.

I still have the pow$r tools, but now look for hand tool alternatives whenever
possible. I hope to
contribute every now and then, but for the most part, probably just pick a spot
down near the end of
the porch and just enjoy the tales and learn a thing or two.
