46047 doug handran <dhandran@m...> 1998‑07‑07 bio: doug handran
hello everyone,

my name is doug handran and i happened upon this list
quite by accident. i was searching for tools used
to service old ford shocks and for some reason,
the search engine i was using registered on oldtools
post as a hit.

needless to say, that post wasn't exactly what i was
looking for, but i've been an avid hand tool user
for a while, so i decided to subscribe.

i really haven't completed that many projects, but
one project that i am extremely proud of is a two
year long ordeal where i fabricated all the wooden
framework for a 1930 ford town sedan using all
hand tools. for those of you who are not car
aficionados, this kind of car has an extensive
wooden skeleton which provides something to attach
body panels and upholstery to. i don't think
there is a straight piece of wood on the whole car,
so crafting all the curves and making all the
joints were quite a challenge.

i use a mixture of new hand tools from the catalogs
and old tools given to me by my grandfather.
i have no particular bias against power tools,
and am not above using them occasionally,
especially when drilling holes.

currently, i'm living in gainesville, georgia,
a small town on the outskirts of metro atlanta.
for about the last six years, however, i lived
within a stone's throw of highland hardware in
atlanta.

i guess i committed a faux pas and posted a question
to the list before i posted my bio. anyway,
thanks to everybody who gave me info on
holdfasts.
