43747 "PHILIP BASSETT" <bassep@h...> 1998‑05‑22 BIO:PHIL BASSETT
Hi Galoots,
sorry for the breach in eticut for not posting my intro
bio before jumping in with my query about Bridgetool CO. plane the other
day.
Anyway,I'm on the wrong end of my 30's,have a SWMBO with
one GIT (3 yr old) and aSWMBETTE in the baking process right now.
We all live down here (up here?) in North Fla.I work on linear
accelerators for radiotherapy treatments for cancer - I be an
injuneer.
Born in UK,I moved from Wales across the big pond several years ago
when I used to install aforementioned eqpt for a living.Twas then I met
SWMBO.
I have no woodworking experience save memories of my father using
a Stanley smoothing plane when I was a kid.
When I moved here I talked myself into buying a Crapsman arm s*w
(so versatile ,right?) and a cheap Normite router and proceeded to make
a bookshelf and side table which turned out ok-ish.But I soon
became disenchanted and frustrated with the set up and dust produced by
both. knew I was pining for something else deep down.
Last year I came upon a #7 jointer and just knew I had to buy it
(twas a good price!).Since then I,ve been adding a few tools every
monthand started some small projectd (boxes ,shelvesetc.,) to learn how
to plane and chisel.I even managed to sell all the Normite stuff
last month in SWMBO's yard sale.
I've gotten a lot of satisfaction out of lapping a few planes and
getting my new blue chips ss and shiny- didn't know I had all those whie
nose hairs either.Enjoyed all the banter on the list and getting to
learn lots of new stuff - thanks.Hope I can contribute too one day.
If y'all still her maybe someone can tell me the accepted way of
squaring up the bottom of a 2.5" deep stopped mortice (1/4"width)
   -thanks again,
                  Phil.
