33120 Becky & Tim Hammond <hammond@m...> 1998‑01‑01 Can only take so much... (bio, too)
Been lurking for a few weeks. Would prolly continue, 'cause that's pretty
much my nature anyway. Required bio follows, but first, gotta let you konw
what kind of stompin it took to get me out from under the porch?

Been in the garage today. Wanted to start on a mini-bench this weekend.
Heater croaked yesterday, though, and it's -40(F or C). Got so danged
frustrated trying huddle close to the little 'lectric heater and use a jack
plane with mittens on that I gave it up. Got a cup of coffee, printed
oldtools digest 2392. Hunkered down, listening intently to the wisdom from
the porch, and heard:

>Okay what will everyone be working on New Years day and perhaps a long
>weekend for the fortunate?

I thought "sure, rub it in." Little later, though, I heard

>Like you, I'm @ work, but having a hard time focusing on work. It's
>_beautiful_ outside (72 degrees, crystal clear skies) & everyone else seems

Like I said, I can only take so much.

OK, here's the bio.

Tim Hammond; 32 yrs.; Married, no kids; Home's Fairbanks, Alaska (for the
last ten years, but they haven't frozen all the Okie out of me yet); BS, MS
in natural resources mgt.; Geographic Information Systems/Remote Sensing
Specialist (shorter to say GIS/RS, but people always ask anyway).

Passions (other than the obvious): hunting birds, catching anything that
swims (even drill holes in the ice to get 'em), and board games ('specially
old (i.e., pre-chess) ones).

How'd I find the porch?
Wife was poking around on the web. Said "hey, isn't Norm Abrams the rich
guy you gripe and moan about every time his show comes on? It looks like
they make jokes about him on this listserve." All down hill from there.

High-school shop teacher was a Tim Taylor wannabe (we need more power!).
Learned basics of woodworking, but never really enjoyed it. 'Round ten
years later, neighbor forced a wooden plane into my hands, put me in front
of an oak board. 'Bout the second shaving, and my life changed. Interest
in old tools is primarily functional. Absolutely love using them. Don't
know much about collectibles, but have urges now and then. Good, though.
Looks like I'll be reading more than using this winter.

Tim - Who knows what cold steel really means.
