271546 Frank Filippone <bmwred735i@g...> 2020‑07‑25 Union #41 or Stanley #48 T+G / Match plane
My first experiment with a Match plane, and I have questions....
Does someone have a working 41 or 48 and could measure the blades width for
me?
I actually have the Union 41 plane, and one of the blades is different
widths on each end ( 1/4 on one end and 11/32 on the other.... Not a
straight taper, the blade has a wavy taper) ...( the other blade is 5/16 on
both ends) . I do not understand the first blade at all.....why
11/32?.... Is it just because it is more than 5/16 so the groove is
centered on 7/8 material with a bit of slop on the tolerance.?

I would assume the 1/4 blade end is used for creating the groove.
If this plane is supposed to be used on up to 7/8 lumber, then the 5/16 on
one side of the tongue, the tongue is 1/4 and 11/32 on the other side adds
up to 7/8 + 1/32.
Can these be used on less than 7/8 material? what about 1/2?
I do not have the 5/8 blade, If someone has a spare, I would love to buy
it.....
TIA
