268909 Mark Pfeifer 2019‑07‑16 Entire shop: divorce forces sale
Hello Porch,

My wife of 25 years divorced me in January, and got the house, and my shop
(which I built) sits on that property.

I can’t afford to store my tools, and after 7 months of soul searching, I’m
ready to leave aside woodworking. I’ve lost the passion. I’ll ride my motorcycle
and fish more often. :)

Rather than leave the tools, benches, etc to cobwebs and rust, I’d like to find
someone who will give them a new home.

The tools are too numerous to list. The tills they live in cover a 16 foot wall
top to bottom. That doesn’t include stuff in boxes, only the stuff I had in
tills for regular use. Very few snob quality collector tools, mostly good users.
Stanley, Disston, etc, all pre WW2, much of it pre 1900.

Most of my work used trees I harvested on the property, very little purchased
lumber. So I’ve got lots of axes, felling saws, grapples, Peaveys, etc.

Got interested in cooperage, some coopers tools as well.

Also a fair collection of moulding planes. I’ve seen shops with larger
collections of moulding planes, but only a couple times.

The main bench is an 8’ English (Sellers) style joiners bench. Again, not snob
quality, but solidly made and extremely useable.

There are other miscellaneous benches, as well as a spring pole (Underhill)
lathe.

I’m hoping to find someone who will take the entire lot for a very modest price.
If you were so inclined you could sell off a portion and and recover your
investment.

The shop is located about 20 miles from Charlotte NC. If you’re interested, I’m
happy to meet you and show you what’s there. Also happy to help load, there’s
plenty of room there for a van or a PODS container.

Mark.

I'm really sorry to hear that, Mark. That's... that's a lot of different
losses. It sounds like you have a whole lot of good stuff with good uses
ahead of it.
Biking & fishing -- man, that does sound enjoyable. I hope you find it so.

Very sorry to hear. If no one steps forward to take it all, I would
recommend contacting some auctioneers/auction houses in your area. You live
in a part of the country where there are probably many buyers that would
attend (especially if publicized in the right online forums and Facebook
Groups) & many auction houses also allow online bidding (which you could
share a link to here, allowing some Galoots to give a good home to at least
part of your tools. I’m guessing that even with the auction house fees, you
would clear substantially more than finding a single buyer.

Let us know how it goes

Respectfully,

Perhaps Ed Lebetkin (guy with tool store upstairs from St. Roy’s Woodwright’s
School) would be interested? He is in NC.

Darren, Andrew, thanks!

I’ll try to get in touch with Ed . . . .

If that doesn't work out try:

Dan Raber - Colonial Homestead
144A W. Jackson St.
Millersburg, OH 44654
330-600-9445

https://www.visitamishcountry.com/business/495/colonial-homestead-the

I have no connection with him other than I have overpaid for some
admittedly very nice tools from him.
