Pursuant to a recent discussion of obtaining blades for the Stanley #70 and
#70-1/2, I offer this picture of two shop-made blades I bought as part of a box
lot at a local flea:

The blade on the left appears to have been ground out of a flat file about the
width of a U.S. penny and perhaps 3/16” thick. The lower part has been ground
thinner to make a grove about 1/16” thick.
This blade appears to have been made solely by grinding, without any forging.
There may have been some tempering to make the blade less brittle than a file.
The larger blade might be a factory blade, though it has a slightly homemade
appearance. This one must have been made by forging or welding.
Two points:
1) A router blade could be made from a file by simple grinding.
2) One never knows what’s available at a Flea Market unless you GO! This box
lot was the dregs of a wooden “suitcase style” carpenter’s box which had been
_dumped on the ground_ by an earlier customer who wanted only the box itself.
