266821 RH <rhhutchins@h...> 2018‑10‑18 Replacements for Lost Marking Pins on Adjustable Squares
Does anyone know of a source for these things?  I have several without
the pins and would like to bring them up to par.

Starrett parts carries them, These are designed for newer squares that
have a copper or brass insert inside the square body - numbers I ordered
below.

They still fit into the older style bodies (without room for hte insert
, but don't hold as well as I would like. Supposedly they have some stock
for older tools if you ask specifically (i need to ask about an older
center finder bolt too). Let me know if he as older awls. If you need
newer ones, we can talk.

I spoke with Paul Nelson, who emailed me after filling out a request form.

Starrett parts carries them, These are designed for newer squares that

Bob,

These scribers can be ordered from Starrett. I’ve not ordered any Starrett
spare in over 15 years, but FWIW, the last time I had to order the parts through
a dealer.

Starrett’s website may give you a part number. If not, call Starrett and
inquire.

My advice: get some extras!

Unfortunately, except for Starrett, who made theirs fairly similar
(uniform) over time,
there are about 137 other sizes and styles.
The marking pins and the brass bushings that go into the head as well.

Long short fat thin, and their little bushings too.

I have a little sack of maybe a dozen spare marking awls.

Last time I needed one for a square I was cleaning up?
I had to custom fit one anyway. :-\

So umm armed with that information ( part # for awl) I go to the site in
this email and cannot find that part listed anywhere. Where do they sell
them? Did you discover that?

I filled out their inquiry form, including that part number in the
comments, and then started an email thread.

You can go to their Starrett 3D site, bottom, right hand column, and enter
your part number to get the sub component parts.

As I noted, their parts website didn't work today, only listed 9 parts.
