Gentle Galoots:

List member George Langford has a great discussion of tote repair on his
website:

https://www.georgesbasement.com/fixatote.htm

Note the part about removing the oil from the rosewood using acetone before
gluing.

He also offers a method to prevent the totes from breaking in the first place,
using Belleville conical spring washers, but for some unknown reason, I can’t
access that page at the moment.

all good methods

I still can find nothing better than 5/16" allthread lightly greased.
If you carve a couple of blocks that match the angles, then your nuts will be
pulling in a straight line.
I have glued a lot of totes
