243322 Ron Harper <kokomorontoo@g...> 2013‑11‑06 Ron Harper. Bio Update
I just re read my bio. Posted in 1997. Wow... A lot has happened. I am no
longer 51. I have retired. I am now married to a gorgeous lady who has
Asthma. My shop is in my basement. I almost never use anything that has a
cord to work wood largely because of the dust issue. I am absolutely loving
it. I am looking to make a decision very soon on a genre to specialize in
so that I can get a lot better at it. Appalachian Chairs are a very strong
contender.. Fancy small boxes possible.. The favorite is carved boxes and
chests similar the the work I have seen Peter Follansbee do. Right after I
finish my Christmas gifts, I will build a couple of joined chests, and a
Bible Box or two. That should cement my decision, one way or another. I
have found a reliable source for straight grained white oak logs. at
68, horsing them around could pose a challenge , but I will figure that one
out. I

I will cheerfully admit that I have too many tools. I will only buy an
upgrade. As an Indiana boy I am passionate about Atkins saws. I have way
too many spokeshaves. My favorite recent acquisitions are my Bad Axe 16 in
jack saw. It is an amazing tool. I am also very fond of my Old Street
Smoother. That one is special for the quality of the tool and for the fact
that Don McConnell twice came to my shop for Hoosier Galoots
gatherings. He is a true gentleman and an incredible reservoir of tool
knowledge. I am a tails first guy. I hone with oil stones ( after trying
all other methods) using Paul Sellers technique for honing. I have long
been a member of FOYBIPO. I would dearly love to be able to get the
Hoosier Galoots going again. Just finished a toy box for a niece. Tomorrow
I start two country style spice chests for daughters for Christmas. Big
project on the drawing board is a very serious jewelry storage piece for
SWMBO. Went on a ten year hiatus from the shop for a lot of different
reasons. Am back with a vengeance. The Old Tools guys feel like old
friends. You too Esther. If you are in my neck of the woods I would love to
see you. i make good chili and the coffee pot is always goin.

Ron. A Kokomo Galoot
