165330 Esther Heller <galoot@l...> 2006‑12‑01 Bio v 3.0
Gentle galoots,

Well if bios like projects have to "mature" I may be setting the
record, I thought I updated a couple years ago but the date
and facts are Feb. 1997....

I am now in my mid-fifties, no longer own the TS that hadn't
seen 'lectrons for several years 10 years ago, but do have
some planes. I am a "knight of Windsor" in the chairmaking
world, quit the big company 3.5 years ago (round peg, square
hole, no more round holes in the company) to try making chairs
for a living, I can make them but am not good at self-promotion/
marketing. Currently jobhunting (QA/test engineer/statistics)
and am taking optics at the local community college to help
the job hunt.

Part of the description of the ideal woman in Proverbs 31 is that
"she works willingly with her hands.." and that would be me.
Other hobbies include sewing, spinning, knitting, crochet, and
I am a nut for how things work. A number of people from
my former congregation have moved to a different and much more
liturgical organization, and I have had a good time dressing
the priest, deacons, and altar (all the fiber stuff and a client
who appreciates what goes into it as well as the result).
I play with the Society for Creative Anachronism which essentially
galoots everything, not just woodworking, back to 600-1600 AD. Goes
with sewing, spinning, woodworking, etc.

I am the oldest of 5 daughters, 4 have techie careers, the fifth
is an MD which if you think about it is a different flavor of techie.
I was the fourth woman hired in the early '70s as a field service rep
for Kodak, moved to Rochester and did the same thing on unreleased
product for a while, went into software testing and got unixoid,
picked up a MS in statistics, and am now a quality engineer. Not bad
for a BA in French and German followed by 5 semesters of EE. This is
called being "well-rounded" and was the fashion when I was in high
school. I wish I could say it was planned.

Those who have been around for a while will also recall that I was
a listmom for a couple years, I can tell stories about 300+ error
messages in the mailbox when a major ISP burped, the newer listserv
software is a lot nicer for error handling.
