Hi, I'm Ron Walker, and I'm new around here. I discovered your list while
exploring rec.woodworking. I was thrilled to find you all. I don't have
anything against power tool users, but I thought I might explode if I read
one more thread about which is the best tablesaw...

I'm a beginner/intermediate hand tool user. I'm still new to the terms used
on this list, but I think I definitely qualify as an entry-level neanderthal.
I got hooked watching Roy Underhill's show, then reading his books. After
that, I discovered Drew Langsner, John Alexander, etc. I live in the woods,
so I do a lot of green/rustic type stuff, but I'm learning that all these
hand tools I've accumulated can be used on store-bought lumber too.

So far, I've done mostly small stuff. Carved signs, stools, birdhouses,
benches, one or two tables. I'm interested in Appalachian woodworking, green
woodworking, and all aspects of hand tool techniques. I wouldn't call myself
a collector (yet). I buy mostly for function, rather than value or pedigree,
but I'm sure that will change as I learn more about these great old tools.

My woodworking has been a pretty solitary activity so far. I had no idea
there were clubs, sales, meetings, etc. This list is the answer to my
prayers (although I have a lot to learn - I don't have any idea who Patrick
Leach is or what alll the excitement is about this Crane's sale)!

I live in Maryland, and I'm now excited about joining PATINA. I'll
definitely be at the sale in March (although I'm not sure I'll have much to
spend). I just bought a boring machine that has pretty much sapped my wife's
tolerance of money spent on old tools.

I also support my woodworking as a computer jockey. Quit my job at IBM two
years ago to strike out on my own as a consulltant - so far, so good. The
only problem is I work at home now, and the workshop is only steps away from
the office, which makes concentrating on work a lot harder!

Glad to be here, and looking forward to getting to know you all in the
future.
