-541 "Tim O'Hearn 1970‑01‑01 Quick Biography

Hello, my name is Tim O'Hearn.
I work at the Natural History Museum, Smithsonian Institution, where
I am mainly interested in the geochemistry of volcanics from the mid-ocean
ridges. Also I assist my boss with studying volcanoes in Costa Rica, and
studying volcanic earthquakes. We are also studying the chemistry of shales
and ancient volcanics in the eastern United States. In my copious free
time at the office I also write computer programs for processing the data
we collect. Also, programs for the exhibit halls. We are rebuilding the
Gem and
Geology Hall at the museum, and everyone is involved to some extent in
this undertaking.
When I am at home, I try to spend some time in my basement
shop. Here I have a mix of power and hand tools. Many of the hand tools
I inherited from my father who collected Stanley tools. I am learning to
use these tools while trying to get some projects done to satisfy my wife
that all these toys aren't just taking up space. The projects on my current
todo list include 2 lap desks - one of cherry, one of lacewood, both made with
hand tools predominately. A child's table, some toys, and some sort of trellis
arbor as a garden entrance and wisteria support.
