249702 Kirk Eppler <eppler.kirk@g...> 2014‑08‑03 House Handle
Hey gang

I have had several off list questions and comments on House Handle, so
thought I would share with the list.

1st off, not sure where I first heard of them. First recorded email is
from Mike Blair, but not sure if I was stalking them on ebay before that,
or if Scott G told me about them.

I tried to entice the FleaBAGs into a group buy, but no such luck, only
Bill K and a coworker and I went in on the order.

Some pretty good looking wood, one of my hatchet handles has a small glob
of finish, but nothing gross. Even Scott G seemed impressed with the wood
in the picture.

Everything in the picture is their AA grade, the expensive stuff, except
the 2nd handle from the front, that was an FH grade, $5.40 vs $7.10
(coworker buddy was feeling cheap).

I found it interesting that their small ball peen was an 8" handle, vs 12"
from Link, who supplies my local Hardware store. Need to think about
rehandling one shorter, see how it feels.

$90 for handles, $27 for shipping, slightly higher than expected due to the
4# of wedges, and (2) 48" shovel handles. But overall, quite happy with
total cost.

12" Ball Peen Handles were $5+ at my local store, vs $3.30 here. Will try
to bring samples to next BAGathon to compare quality and finish.

FWIW, I heard about them from Mr. Grandstaff a few years ago when
asking him for advice (off list) about a broad axe on fleabay.

I paid $11 to ship a 16" broad hatchet, 28" cruiser axe, and 16"
scout axe handle, plus some wedge packs. Their handles are better
and cheaper than I can find at the local hardware stores.

I am pretty sure I first heard about House from Scott Grandstaff. I have only
ordered one handle from them, an axe handle. I was somewhat taken aback when the
postage exceeded the price of the handle. But that's not their fault. The PO
charges what it will for postage.

The handle was of excellent quality by the way.
